Strain Sprain Neck Injury – What They Don’t Tell You!
Neck Strain Sprain Can Be Serious
Many who have suffered a strain sprain neck injury from auto accidents, find themselves being judged by other when they mention their pain. There is an false idea that that the injury is “just a strain or sprain” and it will all be OK. In many instances, this idea is pushed by the insurance adjusters when communicating with the injured victim. The sad fact is, they are not telling you the truth about the severity of your injury!
There are three key points of a strain/sprain injury that most professionals fail to talk about. They include:
* scar tissue formation
* abnormal joint motion

Scar tissue
The first key factor about a strain sprain injury is the injured tissue does not heal with 100% normal tissue, it repairs itself with scar tissue! This is important because scar tissue does not stretch like healthy muscles or ligaments. It has less blood supply BUT has more nerve endings than healthy muscles or ligaments. If not treated properly, you can develop a stiff and sensitive muscle, ligament or joint that can be aggravated with minimal movement and begin a lifestyle of chronic pain.
Abnormal motion
The second key point is that a strain sprain injury to the muscles or ligaments creates a complicated neurological problem that results in abnormal motion of the joints. Typically, there is a reduced or limited motion because the muscles are not working in a coordinated manner which results in increased stress or friction on the affected joints. Over time, this causes the third key point about strain sprain injuries: degeneration of the joints!
Degeneration
The third key point is the long-term effect of a strain sprain injury is joint degeneration, or in layman’s terms – arthritis. Because the scar tissue and abnormal muscle movement limits the joint motion, it creates internal stress within the joints. When bone is under stress, it responds by producing more bone cells; thus, the surfaces of the joints become thick and rough, even developing bone spurs. This can develop slowly over time with minimal or no symptoms until the degeneration becomes severe.
What You Should Do
As you can see, strain sprain injuries are not just a simple thing. Left untreated the can result in joint degeneration and a long-term pain cycle. The answer? Restoring normal mobility to the affected joints while the muscles and ligaments heal. Chiropractic adjustments along with specific rehabilitative exercises is the most effective treatment for this.
