Chiropractic And CTS
The key to treating carpal tunnel syndrome is a correct diagnosis. Not all hand numbness/pain/tingling is CTS. In many cases, the symptoms are a condition called Cervical Radiculopathy or an irritation of a nerve in the neck.
Dr. Schmaltz’ approach to carpal tunnel is to thoroughly examine from the fingers to the neck, looking for the cause of the symptoms. In most cases, there are multiple levels of nerve irritation such as in the wrist, elbow, shoulder or neck. All areas of irritation must be treated to effectively relieve the symptoms.
Once the source is identified, Dr. Schmaltz typically will use gentle manipulations to restore normal joint motion thus reducing the nerve irritation. Specific rehabilitative exercises will also be used to strengthen and stabilize the normal joint alignment and mobility.
