Chiropractic Care Helps Herniated Discs

90% Of Patient’s With Herniated Discs Improved

Chiropractic care shown to be an effective alternative for treating herniated discs in the lower back. A 2014 study demonstrated that chiropractic care resulted in 90% of patients reporting improvement within three months.

Published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiologic Therapeutic, the study demonstrates that Doctors of Chiropractic can effectively treat both acute and chronic herniated discs. The study looked at 148 patients, experiencing back pain and radiating leg symptoms, who had MRI confirmed disc herniation’s in the lumbar spine (low back). Of these, 37 patient’s herniation was less than four weeks old, while 79 had herniation’s longer than three months.

These patients were treated by Doctors of Chiropractic with specific spinal adjustments or manipulation. They were re-evaluated in two week and at three months. After two week, 70% of the patients experienced significantly improved pain and disability. At the three-month mark, 90.5% of the patients experienced substantial improvement in their pain and disability and stabilized at the 1 year mark.

Other related studies have demonstrated that chiropractic adjustments can provide help for patients experiencing recurrent disc herniation or failed back pain surgery syndrome. The good news is that chiropractic care can help those suffering from a herniated lumbar disc whether it is in the acute or chronic state.
