Sitting for long periods can cause muscle tightness and imbalances that lead to spinal issues and pain. In some instances these imbalances result in a distorted posture called upper cross syndrome and can even contribute to early arthritic degeneration in the base of the neck. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, there are some simple exercises you can do help counter the stress of sitting all day and aid in preventing the structural imbalances.
